How to Hygge (Hoo Gah!)

How to Hygge (Hoo Gah!)

The art of well being every day.

Hygge. Originally a Norwegian term for WELLBEING it was developed into a concept and way of living by the Danish in the 18th century and has been infiltrating the lives of SCANDINAVIAN countries ever since.

There is no direct translation in English, making it difficult to pinpoint its meaning. Some people describe it as “COSINESS” or “TOGETHERNESS” but its is more than these things, it is a MOOD or mental state, a CONCEPT, a way of life which can traverses all seasons. You can HYGGE alone with a good book and coffee, or in the company of  loved ones sharing a meal. Even places and surroundings can be Hygge-like which demonstrates how far reaching this concept is.

HYGGE really comes alive in the winter months, and  even in the coldest months when there is minimal daylight.

At Maree Hynes Interiors we are all about HYGGE, with many of our clients sheltering from the WINTER DAYS in the comfort of a well thought out and well appointed showroom at 19 Theodosia Street Timaru, South Canterbury.

Our STAGED AREAS are what wins over our customers every time. We have at least 6 staged areas in the SHOWROOM on any given day.

Come to Maree Hynes Interiors for contemplation and INSPIRATION. Our friendly team will assist you in creating your own HYGGE in your home.

Open 9am to 5.30pm daily and 10am until 4pm on Saturdays.

“MAREE HYNES INTERIORS - DESTINATION SHOPPING AT ITS BEST”

MEASURING UP SOUTH CANTERBURY FOR OVER 15 YEARS

One of the main stays of our business is helping our clients make great decisions on which type of window treatment best suits their needs. From curtains to roman Blinds, Duettes or Shutters.

Living where we do, our location dictates that we NEED protection from the harsh Winters’ and searing heat from the Summer Sun. Double Glazing has provided a practical solution, however at a cost. Another option is to choose a window treatment that is more affordable and not only provides insulation but blocks out light for a good night’s sleep and creates privacy.

For homes that have single glazing we now have the option of  Luxaflex Duette® Shades which reduce energy loss at the window by up to 60%.  Duette® shades are a type of honeycomb or cellular window shade. They have two or more layers of pleated fabric bonded together to form compartments (cells). Duette® shades have a soft, elegant look and superior insulation properties.  Take advantage of this incredible window treatment at Maree Hynes Interiors with 20% off this month.

We also have 40% off selected fabrics and there are some fabric ranges that come with  FREE making. There is no better time to fit out your lounge, bedroom, or rental than now with these terrific prices. We will come out and do the measure and quote for you too.

Visit our website, Facebook and Instagram for inspiration and while you are there have a browse through our online shop. Lots of lovely things just at your finger tips!

How to tell the Nordic Story

How to tell the Nordic Story

On the other side of the world 17,000 km away, lies a stunning country known for its encompassing mountains, glaciers and deep coastal fjords. Its raw beauty so breath-taking and landscapes so diverse you can see how one would become inspired to design fabrics and homewares with a Nordic story. A fresh new take on this look has hit our stores and we want to help you create your little piece of Scandinavia, at home.

Although Scandinavian design is a timeless look, there are some refreshments to keep it youthful and modern. Reshaping bold geometrics into folk inspired prints or natural linens paired with invigorating sea blues give an unexpected twist. Using colour to tell the Nordic story is vastly different from the stark minimal palette of greys and whites we are used to seeing. Hazy blues can be your new neutral and pare beautifully with dirty pinks. Curtain fabrics are steering towards using voiles, which are patterned and unapologetic for its middle ground between being neither fabric nor sheer.   Come in store and see our wide variety of Nordic inspired fabrics sure to inspire your new look, and take advantage of our free measures and quotes. A friendly face will arrive at your door fill of exciting new ideas and a bag fill of delightful fabrics to tempt you.

If a Nordic homeware story is your desire, you will find plenty in our showroom.  Clean lined furniture and textural rugs will help you achieve this raw look. Top it off with a reindeer hide and you will be transported to the Nordic country side. Pop in today and get a little taste of Scandinavian design at home.
